About Solva

Solva is building AI-native risk infrastructure for insurance, an $8 trillion industry. We're backed by Y Combinator, SV Angel and angel investors, including Paul Graham, that have funded companies such as OpenAI, Google, Stripe, Anthropic, Databricks and GitHub. We have an advisory board of experienced insurance executives and founders.

Our team previously built one of the world’s fastest-growing insurers to $120M in revenue and founded a bank moving over $1B a year. Now we are taking on one of the world’s largest industries and rebuilding it from the ground up with AI.

Solva is a Y Combinator company and has emerged as one of the fastest growing and best-funded startups.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Actuary to own pricing and portfolio economics at Solva. You'll build the models that decide what we charge, how much risk we keep and how each program performs for us, our partners and our capacity providers.

You'll work alongside the founders, underwriting and engineering to turn actuarial models into live pricing that runs inside our products, not in a spreadsheet on the side.

This is a true ownership role. You'll set the actuarial standards for the company and build the function as we grow.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain pricing models for new and existing insurance programs
  • Analyze loss experience, reserves and program profitability, and recommend changes
  • Prepare rate filings and actuarial support for carrier and regulatory requirements
  • Work with engineers to put pricing and rating logic into production systems
  • Model program economics for partners, including expected losses, commissions and profit share
  • Report on portfolio performance to the founders, partners and capacity providers

What we're looking for

  • FCAS or ACAS (or equivalent), with 6+ years of P&C actuarial experience
  • Hands-on pricing experience in commercial lines; reserving experience is a plus
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R or SQL
  • A clear communicator who can explain models to non-actuaries
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building from scratch in a fast-moving company
  • Gold star if you've worked on program business, MGAs or insurtech pricing
